It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it was UC San Diego Health System celebrating all of its superheroes, patients, doctors and nurses during this year’s annual Little Grad Picnic. Nearly 1,500 attendees came to celebrate the lives of all the children who “graduated” from our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which specializes in the treatment of newborns born prematurely or with health issues that require hospitalization. A pilot study launched in UC San Diego Health System’s Hillcrest Emergency Department is the first of its kind in California using web cameras to bring on-call doctors who are outside of the hospital to the patient in need, addressing crowding issues and decreasing wait times.
